What Influence Does Your Food Have On Your Body?

It is a saying as old as time itself and very popular with doctors and mothers alike, and it goes “you are what you eat”. Roughly translated this saying means that every part of our body (and potentially mind) is affected in some way by the things that we put in our mouth. Because of this, we are forever being ordered to eat certain things, drink certain things and avoid lots of things. However, if you are not an expert its pretty hard to filer out the really important info, so here is is for you, the foods with the biggest influence on our insides and out.

Salt. Up until relatively recently, salt was not considered to be a bad thing for us and was rife in lots of peoples diets. 6g of the stuff is what the UK Food Standard Agency states we should not be exceeding per day if possible. If you are very active then you will need more salt in your diet as it is lost via sweating and important to muscle function but most people should cut down as high in salt intake is closely linked to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Rather than put it in your body, salt is good at conditioning skin and is in fact an ingredient in numerous skin care products

Fats. There are types of fat that are vital to the functioning of our body, including maintain organs, skin and vision. However these are unsaturated fats and not the saturated fats (also known as trans fats) that are unfortunately too prominent in lots of people’s diets. Organ failure, diabetes and joint issues are among the many conditions that result from elevated saturated fat intake, not to mentioned the risk of obesity. It won’t matter how many times you have a manicure, your appearance and health will not be great if you don’t watch your fats

Water. This is not something you eat of course, but you should not underestimate the power of the H20. Ideal water intake levels are dependent on factors such as temperature, body size, age, humidity etc, although most experts recommend taking in 1-2 lts per day if possible.Water is not only very important for internal processes of the body, but additionally it has a large influence on external appearances, so if your a big water drinker you wont need any exfoliating scrub treatments quite so often
